GUESS WHAT? I finally had the honor of shooting with a REAL photographer!!! I discovered Cassie Xie through my friend Fritz, who happens to be a wedding videographer. Once I saw her portfolio, I knew she would be so fun to shoot with! Her engagement photos were super romantic, with soft lighting and dramatic backgrounds.
I’ve always loved the Palace of Fine Arts as a backdrop, and Cassie agreed that it would be a perfect place to shoot for the look that I was going for. The great thing about an actual, trained photographer? Not only can they seamlessly adjust for the lighting changes (which always takes me a lot of time fiddling with my camera) but they can also do art direction. Cassie’s instructions like “turn this way, let your dress catch the light” was so helpful in getting the perfect shot. Check out the photos!
Can you believe that I almost threw this skirt out? It’s actually a tea-length convertible maxi dress, so it can be worn both ways, but I was convinced that the color was not flattering on me! However, once I stumbled upon the perfect lace-y white crop top, it became one of my favorite outfits!
I wear this get-up for so many occasions! I wore it for my grandparents 60th wedding anniversary party, my best-friend’s wedding rehearsal (but not the actual wedding because I was a lucky bridesmaid), and some zither performances that I did. I think it’s a good mix of formal while still maintaining my personal style!
Cassie’s work includes a lot of “grand background, little human” effects. I love how minuscule these giant architectural structures make me look.
